It’s been 2 decades since lace was a big hit. In the 80′s Madonna started the “black lace” trend and turned a “once only used in curtains” material into high fashion. Back then we had lace leggings, lace scarves, lace headbands, lace jackets, lace shoes and all of it was in black.
The trend eventually died and almost 2 decades have now past. In 2007 a few designers tried to do a resurrection, but it failed.
The failure of a few years back has now become a success. Maybe if you try something enough times, year after year, eventually it will catch on.
Catch on it did! Black lace leggings, black lace dresses and black lace tops saw their way into many design houses. Even the very classic Chanel line added some lace into their spring collections.
I’m a bit conflicted about this trend as are many other fashion editors. Unlike other popular fashion trends that usually get a consensus of thumbs up from fashionistas worldwide, this one… not so much. It’s a mixed bag of opinion with the sides split to either “Love it!” or “Hate it!”. The split is so wide that I found articles on 2 sister fashion mags under the general theme of “Fashion Do’s and Dont’s”. One editor raved about lace leggings, calling it “Hot” where the other filed it under” Trends that need to die”.
Marie Claire added lace leggings to it’s Spring Must Have list of evening attire. On that list, black lace made up about 50%.

Some thing Floral
Spring and floral prints go hand in hand. This year is no exception and we saw many soft, flowery designs strut down designer’s runways.

J Crew Floral Skirt – $110
Something Shiny
Metallic fabrics and sequins are part of the newest fashion trends. For spring 2010 designers have used a lot of shiny metal in everything from shoes to hats. Metalic fabrics aren’t just for evening wear this season. Coats, shoes, handbags, scarves and sheer summer dresses all have splashes of shimmer.
Tory Burch top – $495
Something Strappy
Platform shoes and ultra high heels are all the rage for 2010, so why not platform high heeled sandals? Strappy platform sandals are available from just about every major shoe line. Seems platform shoes aren’t just fro strippers anymore!
BCB Girls leather platform sandal – $110
Something Gold
Gold never goes out of style and for spring 2010 golden bangles are the buzz. Gold bangles can be found at your local mall for as little as $1 a piece and will add some stylish bling to your spring wardrobe.
Gold Bangles – prices vary
Something Military
Spring 2010 has seen many designers making use of military inspiration, especially for jackets. If a military jacket seems to stern, why not try a pair of military inspired pants. The solid color can be paired with just about any top and a simple change of shoes and accessories can take these pants from daytime casual to nigh time chic.
JBrand Jeans – $216
Something Black
Every woman has a pair of basic black pumps. Even though the color never changes over time, the styles always do. Make sure you update your basics so they never look “so last year”.
Yves Saint Laurent Black Pump
Something Mauve
We have seen this color all over the Paris runways. Chanel’s new spring color is a mauve they call “particuliere” and if its anything like what happened with their satin black color a few years back, we are bound to see it on the fingers of every celeb and cover girl for the next 12 months.
